About

Since 2001, Dr Javier Gilabert has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical & Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT) Spain. He was a Marie Curie Fellow at Plymouth Marine Laboratory UK. With a biological oceanography background, he studied plankton dynamics from an interdisciplinary point of view: from physical (hydrodynamics) to chemical (nutrient diffusion) to biological processes. With expertise in coastal hydrodynamic modelling, he is currently co-director of the Underwater Vehicles Laboratory (LVS) at UPCT and PI of the EU DG-ECHO co-financed project “Expanded Underwater Robotics Ready for Oil Spill” making available a system of underwater, surface and aerial autonomous vehicles to monitor oil in-water plumes.
